Ramón Bilbao Crianza has made its name as one of Spain’s favourite wines during the quarantine, as shown by sales figures on sites such as Vivino, Amazon, Drinks&Co (previously known as Uvinum) and Vinoselección. These e-commerce platforms represent a new and increasingly widespread business model, and have grown significantly in recent weeks. The winery in Haro has been directly affected by this growth, undergoing a 351% increase in the volume of online sales so far this year.


Aside from these online marketplaces, the overall consumption of wine has increased considerably in the months of April and May. Since the lockdown was implemented, 36% of Spanish people consume wine more frequently, as shown in a study backed by the European Association of Wine Economists and the INSEEC School of Business and Economics Wine and Spirits Institute .

As a reflection of this, Ramón Bilbao Crianza has been the most searched-for wine on the Vivino app over the last few weeks, and the 6th highest selling. Vivino is the world’s largest online wine platform and has the greatest number of application downloads. This online store boasts over 44 million users worldwide, of which over 1.5 million are from Spain, and contains upwards of 1,212 million wine labels. Millions of people all over the world use this online marketplace to run the most comprehensive and personalised search possible, so as to find the wine that best meets their needs, as well as simplify the purchase process.

The Riojan bodega’s hard work can also been seen on Amazon, where Ramón Bilbao Crianza is one of the three highest-selling wines in Spain this year, and in 7th place on Vinoselección.

According to data provided by one of the sector’s references, Drinks&Co (previously known as Uvinum), Ramón Bilbao Crianza has been the highest-selling wine on this website in the last 3 months. This achievement is rounded off by the presence of Ramón Bilbao Edición Limitada in 8th position in the ranking, making it the only winery with two mentions in the top 10 best-selling wines on Drinks&Co since the state of emergency was first announced.

Thus, Ramón Bilbao, recently described as the most admired D.O.Ca Rioja brand and number 17 in the world according to the magazine Drinks International, reaffirms its success among Spanish consumers, now also in the digital realm.

Since its creation in Haro in 1924, this family business has shown its pioneering approach within the Rioja DOCa. Ramón Bilbao owns over 180 hectares of vineyards, all in outstanding locations, and diligently supervises another 600 hectares in the most important high quality areas of the Rioja DOCa.

In 2016, Ramón Bilbao built its new winery in Rueda, Valladolid, where we had already been working for several years, with the goal of becoming a benchmark in the production of white wines of excellence in the most important DOCa in the country. The new facilities are located at Finca Las Amedias, an estate of 60 hectares of vineyard in a privileged setting.
