RAMON BILBAO BECOMES THE FIRST WINERY TO RECEIVE THE CERTIFICATE WINERIES FOR CLIMATE PROTECTION FOR ITS VINEYARDS
Madrid, 01 February 2018.- The family business Zamora Company continues with its commitment to environmental sustainability, obtaining the certificate Wineries for Climate Protection for the Ramón Bilbao winery and vineyards in the Rioja making it the first company in the wine sector to be awarded the certification both for the winery and for its corporate vineyards.
Wineries for Climate Protection is the first and only specific sustainability certification for the wine sector, supported by the FEV (Spanish Wine Federation) and is the culmination of joint work with renowned certification organizations. The aim is to obtain a methodology which respects international parameters regarding sustainable processes and practices applied to the current reality of the sector in Spain to align to the standards already disseminated among the stakeholders in the international wine industry and increasingly demanded by large retailers. The certification deals with the four key pillars of sustainability: reduction of greenhouse gases, energy efficiency, water management and waste reduction, establishing minimum requirements and demanding short-, medium- and long-term action plans.
“Obtaining this certification is a “must” for Zamora Company: firstly it responds to our corporate manifesto for commitment to the environment, furthermore it is tangible proof of our role in a mission common to the whole Spanish wine industry, namely that of being increasingly competitive regards sustainability. In addition, today, it is impossible to be a key player in the international market without sound recognized environmental certification, as this is a calling card to break into the most developed markets, where Zamora Company has great plans for the future” states Emilio Restoy, CEO of Zamora Company.
