Finca Los Hoyales achieves the Grand Gold Medal at Mundial del Tempranillo 2018
Finca Los Hoyales, the most exclusive wine from Bodegas Cruz de Alba, has achieved the highest distinction at the latest edition of World Tempranillos Contest with its 2014 vintage.
578 wines have been submitted to the contest, which testifies the key importance of this variety in Spain. 30% of them have been recognized with a prize, while only 5 among the wines presented have received the "Grand Gold Medal", the highest award achievable in the contest. Another of its wines, Cruz de Alba Crianza 2014, has won the Gold medal, a fact that confirms the enological excellence of this boutique winery in the heart of the Golden Mile of the Ribera del Duero. Finca Los Hoyales 2014 is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes from a micro-plot of 1.8 hectares planted more than 50 years ago in Padilla del Duero (Valladolid).
Winemaker, Sergio Ávila, who has a true passion for winemaking, defining it as a "way of life", takes great care of its production process, from the growth of the vines and their fruits, to the work in the winery. That is why the cultivation of the grape is carried out one step beyond the already strict principles of biodynamic agriculture, in total harmony with the cycles of nature
The harvest is manual with a meticulous selection of the bunches in the vineyard, while the aging process of 22 months is carried out, without racking, in new French oak barrels.
