CRUZ DE ALBA RESERVA, THE ESSENCE OF A NEW WINEMAKING STYLE IN THE RIBERA DEL DUERO

Cruz de Alba Boutique winery expands the range of wines with the launch of Cruz de Alba Reserva. An elegant Tempranillo, silky with a modern cut. Balanced and complex, it represents the essence of a new style in the Ribera del Duero.

Cruz de Alba Reserva, comes from the most sandy area of the Finca Los Hoyales vineyard. Winemaker Sergio Ávila, who considers oenology "a way of life" more than a profession, has conceived and developed this new wine in the utmost respect for nature with the aim of achieving the true expression of terroir along with the most modern oenological techniques, in line with the philosophy of the Cruz de Alba winery. This is how, in addition to his rigorous work in the winery, Sergio takes care of and develops the vineyards through the principles of biodynamic agriculture, to intervene the plants only when they need it, besides nourishing them and protecting them with 100% natural agrohomeopathic preparations.

The result is a complex wine but at the same time it is delicate, fruity and it marries excellently with defined flavors such as those of game, fatty fish, truffles, licorice, artichokes and even with chocolate.

The 2012 is the first vintage for this CRUZ DE ALBA RESERVA: "the conditions were ideal. A rainy spring and a dry summer, autumnal temperatures and humidity have been the factors that have determined a perfect maturation of the grape. That's when I saw it clearly: we had to turn that magnificent fruit into a new project.

This is how Cruz de Alba Reserva was born, "says Sergio Ávila. After a process of fermentation at controlled temperatures, this tempranillo has remained 20 months in French oak barrels, using the system of thirds: one third of its aging in barrels was made in new barrels, one third in single-use barrels, and one third in barrels of two uses. Subsequently, it was kept for several months resting on the bottle, before being launched on the market in February 2018, with a limited production of 6000 bottles.
