MAR DE FRADES GODELLO, THE GALICIAN WINERY’S NEW ATLANTIC-INSPIRED NUMBER

2018. The Galician winery Mar de Frades, member of Zamora Company, is expanding it’s range of products with a new wine: Mar de Frades Godello. This wine, made 100% with Godello grapes grown in the valley of O Salnés, has a distinctive salty, Atlantic character, and embodies the essence of a new style among Rías Baixas place of origin wines.

Mar de Frades Godello is the result of a search for excellence, led by the winery’s oenologist, Paula Fandiño, in her unyielding desire to uncover new enological horizons. The new wine reaches shelves for the first time in its 2016
vintage, classified as an Excellent wine of the Rías Baixas place of origin. A challenging manual harvest of the best grapes of the Godello variety, each of which selected on site at the vineyard, gave rise to a wine that, following its
fermentation in steel deposits, rested on its lees for 8 months and was aged for 4 months in French oak barrels.

The outcome is an elegant, oily wine, displaying vigour in its structure and delicateness in its expression. This wine is unique, very pale yellow in colour with lime reflections, and is radiant and luminous in appearance. In nose, beyond its intense pineapple and mango flavours are the more subtle orange blossom and drupes, with balsamic hints that give it great complexity. Oily in mouth, it is well- structured and robust, giving way to a fine and delicate finish, where there remains a hint of lees, giving it its smoothness and volume.

The first vintage of Mar de Frades Godello is availlable on the market in the very limited edition of 2,100 bottles, at the price of €21.95 each.

Mar de Frades Godello “was born out of a passion for discovery, for learning out about other Galician grape varieties and studying the influence of the sea on different strains. We are very excited about this project, since managing to investigate a variety that is not even present in the region is really a challenge”, states Paula Fandiño, oenologist at Mar de Frades.
