ZAMORA COMPANY ATTRACTS THE SUSTAINABLE CONSUMER IN ITS GROWTH STRATEGY
The company innovates in products with consumer experiences for all tastes, sustainable brands, and initiatives aimed at minimizing their environmental impact. The premium brands group works to offer new flavors, healthier products with low alcohol content, more environmentally friendly, and ready-to-drink options. The eco-design of bottles, and projects aimed at reducing the use of inks and pigments, as well as saving cardboard, seek to minimize their environmental impact.
Zamora Company, the company that owns Licor 43 and Ramón Bilbao, among other premium brands, is building its growth for the coming years on sustainable innovation as a lever to continue satisfying different consumer tastes and trends. The business group is committed to continuing to offer innovative products with consumer experiences for all occasions, sustainable brands, and initiatives aimed at minimizing their environmental impact.
In the spirits division, for example, Licor 43 has been a clear example of social innovation. The company has reduced the weight of the 70 cl bottle and the alcohol content of several of its offerings such as Licor 43 Créme Brulée and Licor 43 Chocolate Delight, which also uses sustainable cocoa. Additionally, the spirits brand offers a varied range of canned cocktails such as Licor 43 Coco Milk, ready to drink and vegan.
Another innovation-based novelty added to Zamora Company's portfolio has been the reduction of cardboard inks for Martin Miller’s Original and the reduction of glass and cardboard for Lolea. In this journey to reduce its environmental impact, Lolea Blanco Spritz has eliminated the sleeve. In the spirits category, the reduction of Villa Massa Giardino bottle weight also stands out.
Commitment to ecological culture
In wines, all references from Zamora Company work to offer healthier wines that adapt to the new consumer tastes with lower alcohol content and reduced sulfites. The commitment to ecological and biodynamic certification of the winery group results in healthier wines for the consumer and more respectful of the land. In this regard, the company works to reduce its carbon footprint by reinforcing its commitment to sustainability with the aim, in the case of Ramón Bilbao, of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
The winemaking group applies respectful practices that allow it to be more sustainable with the planet by creating wines free of harmful substances. The Ramón Bilbao brand, for example, offers a range of organic wines, the Organic range, which represents the materialization of the company's commitment to sustainable innovation and a further step in its journey as a conscious company. The Organic range consists of a Rioja red and a Rueda white from certified organic vineyards. In fact, Ramón Bilbao has six hectares of organic vineyards in Haro, La Rioja, and its goal for 2024 is to increase this by 20 hectares.
Meanwhile, Cruz de Alba winery, in Ribera del Duero, has maintained its certified organic vineyard since 2015 and applies biodynamic viticulture, ensuring ecosystem balance to achieve a healthy and vibrant vineyard, thus allowing the wine to express its origin with full definition and purity. The winery has just achieved the Demeter biodynamic seal, a certification that guarantees these biodynamic practices and the use of natural preparations. Its application is enabling Cruz de Alba to address current sector challenges such as climate change, environmental care, or water scarcity.
Successful Innovation Projects
The business success of the company also focuses on several initiatives aimed at minimizing the environmental impact of its packaging, analyzing the entire product life cycle: design, production, distribution, and consumption. Likewise, it incorporates sustainability criteria into all its innovation projects.
This is the case with bottle eco-design, involving the reduction of bottle weight and tons of glass, and consequently, CO2 emissions. The company's goal is to reduce its atmospheric emissions by 20% by 2025 through actions aimed at reducing bottle and packing weight, self-generated electricity, and its green energy plan. With these measures, Zamora Company aims to advance towards the decarbonization of the energy model and shift towards more sustainable environments.
Specifically, the weight reduction in 2023 for Ramón Bilbao Bordeaux bottles was 10 grams, resulting in the current weight of 435 grams, saving several tons of glass. Similarly, in the same year, Mar de Frades reduced the weight of its Albariño bottle by 16%, weighing 48 grams less, reduced from 528 to 480 grams.
In corrugated cardboard, the company has unified paper qualities and thicknesses, achieving an accumulated annual saving of more than 35 tons of cardboard. Likewise, it has been developing various projects to reduce the use of inks and pigments in boxes, promoting their recyclability and the reduction of hazardous waste.
