ZAMORA COMPANY DIRECTS ITS "CONSCIOUS COMPANY" STRATEGY TOWARDS GROWTH IN THE USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY, MULTINATIONAL EMPLOYMENT, AND SOCIAL PHILANTROPY

Zamora Company, the owner of Licor 43, Ramón Bilbao or Martin Miller’s Gin, among other premium spirits and wine brands, continues to advance its Conscious Company strategy with the publication of its 2023 report, detailing over 70 social and environmental measures and actions carried out during the past year. At the same time, it highlights the objectives for the coming years, with the aim of achieving 'zero waste' by 2025.

This roadmap outlines its commitment, once again, to the promotion and care of employees, consumers, society, and the planet, structured around three fundamental pillars: good governance, transparency, and conscious leadership.

The implementation of measures carried out, aligned with the 2023 Agency's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), includes, among other aspects, the creation of quality employment, the well-being and safety of teams, support for training and various social causes, and decarbonization and environmental care. Zamora Company is a sustainable company as an ethical choice, but also as a long-term success strategy that advocates for sustainable development and a shared future with the planet, employees, and society as a whole.

"This new Conscious Company report reflects our spirit to be a company that combines tradition with a bright future, based on entrepreneurship, effort, teamwork, innovation, and the best talent. All of this is structured through a 'Conscious Company' model to positively impact society, use resources efficiently, and continue to offer top-quality and innovative products," says Javier Pijoan, CEO of Zamora Company.

Main Environmental Milestones

In environmental matters, the group focused in 2023 on the rational and efficient consumption of resources, promoting the use of renewable energies. The average renewable energy consumption reached 64% last year, and for 2025, the company is committed to reducing its CO2 emissions by up to 15%.

In line with this, the company promoted the circular economy in packaging last year by reducing the unit weight of containers, increasing their percentage of recyclable and biodegradable materials, simplifying the use of inks, and optimizing the grammage of paper and cardboard. Additionally, the percentage of waste that could be treated without the need for landfill increased by 3%, rising from 93% in 2022 to 96% in 2023.

Regarding water discharges, the company has set the goal of 'zero discharge' into public watercourses and, in terms of the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the company has implemented measures to eliminate their use entirely. Moreover, Zamora Company protects biodiversity by not using herbicides, pesticides, or GMOs, employing organic manure, applying natural treatments, installing cover crops, committing to precision viticulture, and respecting local wildlife. Furthermore, it uses an efficient and sustainable logistics model with the use of reusable pallets.

Care for People and Sustainable Innovation

The health and well-being of its workforce is another central focus of its report. At the end of 2023, Zamora Company had 552 employees, a 2.9% increase from the previous year. To create an attractive and safe work environment, the company works with four strategic lines for the professional development of all its employees: health, safety, and well-being at work; work-life balance, diversity, and inclusion; and the creation of a conscious team.

Of the training programs planned last year, 103% were delivered, improving upon the previous year's figure of 98%. In 2023, the workforce consisted of professionals from 25 different nationalities.

Additionally, Zamora Company maintained a strong innovative effort in creating products to align with various consumer preferences and experiences for all occasions. Examples include the launch of Licor 43 Crème Brûlée, a delightful cream that recalls the flavor of the famous dessert, and Licor 43 Chocolate Delight, a new version of the acclaimed Licor 43 Chocolate. In Germany, the company launched Cocktail 43 Coco Milk, a new version of the Licor 43 cocktail with plant-based milk and ready to drink.

From this general innovative effort, numerous recognitions were received, such as the Demeter Certification for Cruz de Alba vineyards; a gold medal for Martin Miller’s Gin at the World Gin Awards 2023; gold medals for Villa Massa Vermouth Giardino Tradizionale Di Torino Rosso and Villa Massa Amaretto at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition; and a Master Medal for Licor 43 Chocolate at The Spirits Business Masters.

Meanwhile, Zamora Company's supplier panel increased in 2023 to nearly 1,200, driven by its commitment to continuous growth and innovation. The group began implementing the Supplier ESG Evaluation System last year, with 90% of suppliers being domestic and 10% being from the EU.

2% of Net Profit for the Most Disadvantaged Groups

As part of its corporate philanthropy, Zamora Company details in its Conscious Company Report the donation in 2023 of 2% of its net profit to social initiatives focused on the most disadvantaged groups within its business influence areas in Spain. Specifically, more than €650,000 was allocated to various projects developed by different social entities.

In support of local businesses, the group purchased 12,000 tons of vegetables from the geographical areas where its production plants are located and undertook various initiatives supporting culture and the arts. Notably, the Mar de Frades brand supported Sevillian designer Roberto Diz, featured in the 11th Limited Edition of Mar de Frades, and collaborated with the San Sebastián Festival. Meanwhile the Villa Massa limoncello brand was present at the PassioneItalia fair in Italy.

All of this aligns with a solid governance framework stemming from committed leadership, which enabled the company to close the past year with record-breaking revenues of €268 million, marking a 21.5% cumulative growth compared to 2021.
